Shih Tzu Papers — How to Get Official Registration Documents
Get Official Papers for Your Shih TzuWhat Are Shih Tzu Papers?
Shih Tzu papers record the breed, lineage and ownership of your dog. The Shih Tzu is a purebred, AKC-recognized toy breed with a long history as a companion dog. Many Shih Tzus are bought from small breeders or pet stores without any registration, and owners search for papers to confirm the dog's breed, to document ownership, and to have a record for grooming, boarding and vet care.
Can You Get Papers for a Shih Tzu Without AKC Registration?
AKC registration for a Shih Tzu requires both parents to be AKC-registered and the litter recorded. Dogs sold without paperwork cannot be added retroactively. DKC Foundation Dog Registration covers Shih Tzus acquired without documents: it records the breed, the dog's details and your ownership, and issues an official certificate without requiring AKC lineage.
What Shih Tzu Papers Look Like
A DKC Shih Tzu certificate includes the registered name you choose, the breed, the dog's date of birth, your name as owner, a unique registration number and the official DKC seal. It is delivered as a PDF by email within 2–3 business days. The certificate documents your dog's breed and ownership and is used for vet records, grooming and boarding check-ins, and housing documentation.
